Nominated for a NAIRD Award as
Best Documentary Video. It documents the origins and development of this highly
sophisticated Brazilian music. Gorgeous new cinematography (including luscious Carnival
moments) plus archival footage includes stories and reminiscences with lots of intimate
revelation from the late, great Antonio Carlos Jobim. Plenty of performances, lots of
wonderfully shot film of an early 90s Jobim concert. Other musical highlights include the
great Caetano Veloso, a Jobim/Frank Sinatra duet and Joao Gilberto. This film traces the
bossa's influence around the world with Gerry Mulligan, Henry Macini, Michel Legrand, Stan
Getz, Chet Baker and others. 52 minutes of fascination, humor and great music very
stylishly presented. |
